Centre for Advances in Reliability and Safety Limited (CAiRS), initiated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is established in 2020 with its operation located in the Hong Kong Science Park, New Territories, Hong Kong. The mission of CAiRS is to bridge academic and industrial counterparts to introduce and implement artificial intelligence methods and prognostic techniques to advance reliability and safety. The goal of the Centre is to improve reliability and safety of critical components and devices, products, systems and sub-systems designed, commissioned and/or manufactured by Hong Kong companies and enterprises. Job Description

Programmer/ Web Developer (Functional Safety Verification of Systems that Implement AI) (Ref. No.: CAiRS- R33-R34/P4.3)

[Appointment period will end on 30 June 2025]


Duties

The appointees will report to the Project Leader and the Centre Director or his delegate (currently Programme Manager) and perform research and related work in the research – “Functional Safety Verification of Systems that Implement A”. The project will be involved in the development of AI technique to meet safety criteria of functional safety standards in the area of “smart building”.



For the post of Programmer/ Web Developer, the appointee will be required to:

  1. Design, develop, implement, troubleshoot and maintain various software applications (e.g., database, interactive web interfaces, dashboard and others);
  2. Work with the research team and the clients for the design and improvement of the various software applications, for data safety, effectiveness and user-friendly interactions;
  3. Prepare prototypes for R&D and demonstration purposes;
  4. Assist team members for the data acquisition, data analysis, and preparing documents (e.g., proposals, reports, papers, and patents); and
  5. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the post of Programmer/ Web Developer should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, information system, engineering or a relevant discipline. Experience in design and conduct experiments is a plus.

For the post, applicants should also have/be:

  1. Proficiency in front-end and back-end framework and technologies, and comprehensive understanding of SQL and database architecture;
  2. Proficiency in programming language (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, PHP, HTML, CSS, ReactJS, NextJS, Express Js, Django, or others);
  3. Familiar with MS SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB or other databases;
  4. Strong problem-solving and self-learning capabilities, with proven product mindset;
  5. Strong communication and collaborative skills, and adept at handling multiple projects and deadlines efficiently;
  6. Knowledge of Git, AWS, DevOps, Jenkins, JIRA or other related framework being an advantage; and
  7. Knowledge of Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) being an advantage;
